Strong verbs in the future: אֶכְתֹּב, יִרְקֹד, נִסְגֹּר

For strong verbs the future has the shape of the infinitive, with the person’s letter in place of the ל: לִכְתֹּב gives אֶכְתֹּב «I will write», תִּכְתֹּב «you will write», יִכְתֹּב «he will write», נִכְתֹּב «we will write». The o in the middle is the infinitive’s o. «You» (f.) and the plurals add ־ִי and ־וּ and lose that o: תִּכְתְּבִי, יִכְתְּבוּ.

Two bends, both from the throat letters. If the root starts with ע or ח, the person’s letter takes a: אֶעֱבֹד, תַּעֲבֹד, יַעֲבֹד; יַחְשֹׁב. If the second or third root letter is a throat letter (ע, ח, ה, א), the middle vowel is a instead of o: יִשְׁאַל «he will ask», יִשְׁמַע «he will hear», יִפְתַּח «he will open». A few ordinary verbs take a too: יִלְמַד «he will learn».

Questions

How do you say «I will write» in Hebrew?
אֶכְתֹּב (echtov): the tune of לִכְתֹּב, with א in place of the ל.
Why is «he will work» יַעֲבֹד and not יִעֲבֹד?
Because the root starts with ע, and before a throat letter the person’s letter takes a: יַעֲבֹד, תַּעֲבֹד, נַעֲבֹד.
Why is «he will hear» יִשְׁמַע and not יִשְׁמֹע?
Because the root ends in ע, a throat letter, so the middle vowel becomes a. The same goes for יִשְׁאַל and יִפְתַּח.
