Verbs that lose a letter: אֵשֵׁב, אֵלֵךְ, אֶתֵּן

A few verbs start with י: יוֹשֵׁב, יוֹרֵד, יוֹצֵא, יוֹדֵעַ, and הוֹלֵךְ behaves like them. In the future that י is gone and the person’s letter takes e: אֵשֵׁב «I will sit», תֵּשֵׁב, יֵשֵׁב, נֵשֵׁב. So אֵלֵךְ «I will go», אֵרֵד «I will go down», אֵצֵא «I will go out», אֵדַע «I will know».

Verbs that start with נ lose it too, and the next letter gets a dot: נוֹתֵן gives אֶתֵּן «I will give», יִתֵּן; נוֹסֵעַ gives אֶסַּע «I will travel», נִסַּע; נוֹפֵל gives יִפֹּל «he will fall». The order drops the ת of the future and is very short: שֵׁב! «sit!», לֵךְ! «go!», צֵא! «out!», תֵּן! «give!»; to a woman שְׁבִי, לְכִי, תְּנִי.
