Pi’el ending in ה, all tenses: מְגַלֶּה, גִּלִּיתִי, אֲגַלֶּה

Seven very common verbs are pi’el and end in ה: מְחַכֶּה «wait», מְנַסֶּה «try», מְקַוֶּה «hope», מְגַלֶּה «discover», מְצַפֶּה «expect», מְבַלֶּה «spend time», מְלַוֶּה «accompany». They keep pi’el’s shape and do with the ה what רוֹצֶה does. Present: מְחַכֶּה, מְחַכָּה, מְחַכִּים.

Past: the ה becomes י before the ת and נ endings, and drops before ־ָה and ־וּ: חִכִּיתִי «I waited», חִכָּה «he waited», נִסְּתָה «she tried», גִּלּוּ «they discovered». Future: the ה stays with e and drops before ־ִי and ־וּ: אֲגַלֶּה, תְּגַלִּי, יְגַלּוּ. Infinitive: לְחַכּוֹת, לְנַסּוֹת. Watch out: מְחַכֶּה takes לְ: חִכִּיתִי לְךָ «I waited for you».

The page has the explanation, the table of לְנַסּוֹת in three tenses and the first two exercises: «I waited for you for an hour» and «she tried to call, but there was no answer». The other four, including typing the verb yourself and building a sentence, open with a free account.

Questions

How do you say «I waited for you» in Hebrew?
חִכִּיתִי לְךָ (chikiti lecha), or לָךְ to a woman. The ה of מְחַכֶּה becomes י before ־תִי, and «wait for someone» takes לְ.
How do you say «she tried»?
נִסְּתָה (nista): ־תָה at the end, and the ה of the root disappears. «He tried» is נִסָּה.
How do you say «I hope you will come»?
אֲנִי מְקַוֶּה שֶׁתָּבוֹא: מְקַוֶּה plus שֶׁ and the future.
