Nif’al: נִכְנָס, לְהִכָּנֵס, נִכְנַסְתִּי, אֶכָּנֵס

You already know a few nif’al verbs as words: נִכְנָס «enter», נִפְגָּשׁ «meet», נִשְׁאָר «stay». The mark of the binyan is the נ in front. Present: נִכְנָס, נִכְנֶסֶת, נִכְנָסִים. Past: the same נ with the endings you know: נִכְנַסְתִּי «I entered», נִכְנַס «he entered», נִכְנְסָה. The present «he» and the past «he» differ by one vowel only: נִכְנָס now, נִכְנַס before.

In the infinitive and the future the נ disappears into a dot in the first root letter: לְהִכָּנֵס «to enter», אֶכָּנֵס «I will enter», יִכָּנֵס, נִכָּנֵס, יִכָּנְסוּ. Hear the e at the end: לְהִשָּׁאֵר, אֶשָּׁאֵר. Many nif’al verbs are things that happen to you: נִגְמָר «is finished», נִשְׁבָּר «gets broken», נִזְכָּר «remembers», נִפְרָד «parts».
