Free grammar · Unit 44 of 45
All the endings in one table: לִי, אוֹתִי, שֶׁלִּי, עָלַי, אֵלַי, מִמֶּנִּי
Every preposition takes its pronoun as an ending, and there are only two sets. The first is the set of לִי: ־ִי, ־ְךָ, ־ֵךְ, ־וֹ, ־ָהּ, ־ָנוּ, ־ָכֶם, ־ָהֶם. It sits on לְ, בְּ, שֶׁל, אֵצֶל, אֶת (אוֹתִי, אוֹתוֹ), עִם (אִתִּי, אִתּוֹ), בִּשְׁבִיל (בִּשְׁבִילִי) and on the noun itself (סִפְרִי).
The second is the set of עָלַי, the plural set: ־ַי, ־ֶיךָ, ־ַיִךְ, ־ָיו, ־ֶיהָ, ־ֵינוּ, ־ֵיכֶם, ־ֵיהֶם. It sits on עַל, אֶל, לִפְנֵי (לְפָנַי «in front of me»), אַחֲרֵי (אַחֲרָיו «after him»), בֵּין (בֵּינֵינוּ «between us»), בִּלְעֲדֵי (בִּלְעָדַי «without me»). מִ is the odd one: מִמֶּנִּי, מִמֶּנּוּ. The same lesson adds לַמְרוֹת שֶׁ «although».
The page has the explanation, the table of the two sets on eight words and the first two exercises: «he stood in front of us» and «this is between you and me». The other four, including typing «although» yourself and pairing each word with its set, open with a free account.

- How do you say «between you and me» in Hebrew?
- בֵּינִי לְבֵינְךָ (beini leveincha), or לְבֵינֵךְ to a woman: בֵּין with endings, said twice.
- How do you say «without you»?
- בִּלְעָדֶיךָ (to a man), בִּלְעָדַיִךְ (to a woman). With a pronoun בְּלִי becomes בִּלְעֲדֵי and takes the plural set.
- How do I know which endings a preposition takes?
- There are only two families: the set of לִי (לְ, בְּ, שֶׁל, אֶת, עִם, אֵצֶל) and the set of עָלַי (עַל, אֶל, לִפְנֵי, אַחֲרֵי, בֵּין). Only מִ goes its own way.
