Huf’al: מֻרְגָּשׁ, הֻרְגַּשׁ, «is felt»

Every hif’il verb has a passive twin: huf’al. The teacher explains, מַסְבִּיר; the rule is explained, מֻסְבָּר. Take the hif’il form and put u under its first letter: present מֻזְמָן «is invited», מֻסְבָּר «is explained», מֻכָּר «is known»; past הֻזְמַן «was invited», הֻזְמְנוּ «were invited», הֻחְלַט «it was decided».

The same words work as adjectives: אוֹרְחִים מֻזְמָנִים «invited guests», פָּנִים מֻכָּרוֹת «a familiar face». And the passives line up: pi’el gives pu’al (מְסַדֵּר, מְסֻדָּר), hif’il gives huf’al (מַזְמִין, מֻזְמָן), pa’al gives nif’al (כּוֹתֵב, נִכְתָּב).
